Overlord – Episode 1 Fanservice Review

Overlord seems to be offering the best of both worlds with some nice service and an interesting plot!

Overlord surprised me really, I watched it for the sole reason because I want to see some sort of VRMMO anime that appeals to me. Log Horizon is great but it lost its MMO feel very quickly and I rather not talk about SAO here thank you very much. However, I was pleasantly surprised by some service and decent plot set-up that I was greeted with in Overlord.

Episode 1

Episode 1 started off with a very one sided fight with some random heroes (?) and our protagonist.

Pretty tame so far, well that’s about to change with this semen demon.

Spoilers. shes in love with the main character because….well I guess he said so? Watch the episode, you’ll understand.

In fact, she is so in love with him that she will even let him touch her breasts with his boney hands.

Unexpected is an understatement. From the cover art to the synopsis, I certainly did not expect something as ecchi as breast groping in this show. Not that it’s a bad thing obviously. Also, props to Yumi Hara for doing a great performance in that scene as Albedo. She is really giving Yoko Hikasa a run for her money in it…well I could be exaggerating a little but she was pretty damn great in it. You’d probabky know her best as Yuuko from Tasogare Otome x Amnesia or Lilith from Trinity Seven so she isn’t all that green when it comes to ecchi roles like this.

Overlord is being made by Madhouse who has done nudity, albeit briefly, in Highschool of the Dead and Perfect Blue. To boot, they aren’t afraid from tipping their toe into fanservice as they have also made No Game No Life, Ichigo 100% and Needless so service like this shouldn’t -really- come as a surprise but I still thought it was unexpected. The question is, whether or not this anime will actually deliver nudity. As far as I can recall, Madhouse last showed nudity in HoTD and that was only a brief glance at Marikawa’s bosom, assuming you don’t count the blank boobs in NGNL. So, to me, with that information, I would assume that this probably will stick with some nice, non-nude service with Albedo and some other girls. But hey, I would love to be wrong.
