Thoughts on the anime
This is one of those anime that does a great job of illustrating the values divide between East and West on the topic of sex. In the West, even very normal pornography can be portrayed as degrading to women. But in Japan, not only do they show no hesitancy to objectify women, but they even seem to have a bit of a sadist streak too.
I definitely do not mean that observation to be a judgement in any way. I’m a staunch cultural relativist. When in Rome, do as Romans do. There is no one set of cultural values on Earth that is superior to any other- it’s up to us in our own minds to choose which direction we consider progress.
But to put it more succinctly, imagine how this anime might have been received in America if it had caught the attention of the feminist movement? I shudder to think about it. And of course we know how Western audiences react to lolicon sexuality.
But in Japan… this kind of extreme content is considered… maybe not normal, but acceptable. I just find that really interesting. And in a way, I envy the Japanese for their open-minded nature on sexual matters. Meanwhile, in America we have our twitter and our instant social values uprisings.
But, having grown up in that kind of American-puritanical culture, there are moments when anime shocks my culture sensibilities. And this was one of those. It seemed like every episode in this little series had the poor girls letting loose bodily fluids, and every single OVA had a girl getting beaten, tortured, and denigrated. And in all but one of the OVAs, some poor girl had to endure gratuitous ass spankings.
I prefer my ecchi to be a little bit tamer than this, but I have to hand it to Hoods Entertainment, whenever they do ecchi they never hold back. It’s a big part of why they’ve been so awesome in the past.
As far as the non-ecchi content, I thought the backstory for each arc was kind of neat. The transition from Queen’s Blade to Queen’s Blade Rebellion was a bit jarring and sudden, but this OVA helps smooth that transition in the story between those arcs just a bit.

Thoughts on the fanservice video
The borderline hentai theme of this OVA series put in highlight form proved to be a bit too much for Dailymotion. They generally allow my videos, but some of the more hentai-esque offerings I put up are generally taken down as many times as I put them up. I can’t say I blame them.
Like a lot of people around here, I prefer ecchi to be more ‘softcore’, but these days I’ll take what I can get.

Favorite Character
After hiding behind that fiery visage for so long, it was pretty cool seeing the Swamp Witch finally make an appearance in the flesh during the third OVA. I thought for sure they’d scheme up some excuse to show her boobs like for all the other girls. They didn’t, which was disappointing, but I’m still glad her character finally got in the anime version of the series.
