Cross Ange fanservice review episode 03

Cross Ange - 03 (35)

Cross Ange’s third episode does just about everything you can imagine to service viewers, including some long distance censorship and a potential nude scene for re-draw.

This series seriously can’t go two minutes without an exploitative service shot.   Which as an ecchi fan is sort of awesome, but as an anime fan… boy it is super awkward at times.  Going the wet t-shirt route during a scene when they are honoring their fallen comrades… really?

This show can’t decide if it wants to be super dark or super sexy.  There’s only so much room for both before things get weird.

I hope, but very much doubt, that this show lightens up soon.  They can kill off all the characters they want, it won’t matter if we aren’t emotionally invested.  And spending a good five minutes ogling these girls from every concievable angle during what’s supposed to be a serious life and death battle is not exactly a winning strategy.

This show is sexy, but it probably needs to back things off some on the drama side if it wants to be one of those “so bad it’s good” kind of shows.  The eyeball scene got me to laugh.  The problem is, they weren’t going for a laugh there.  This show wants to be ridiculous and be taken seriously at the same time.  Not a good idea.

Despite some huge problems with this anime, it is easily the sexiest of the season so far. This time around we get some long distance censorship, plus a potentially easy to redraw nude shot (the kind we saw all the time in Rail Wars! ).  The water seems fairly murky in this shot as well, I would expect the water to be much clearer on BD.

If this anime were made by Project no.9 I’d be wary, but Sunrise doesn’t have a track record of faking viewers out with false censorship.  So far they’ve made every episode worth looking forward to on BD.  I have to give them credit, this will be the season’s most interesting show when blu-rays starting hitting the market.
