Gokukoku no Brynhildr fanservice review episodes 05, 06

Gokukoku no Brynhildr - 06 (5)

Kazumi continues to hit on Ryouta non-stop, even announcing that she may not have the biggest boobs, but makes up for it by having the best nipples.  What a crazy slut… and by that I mean she’s hands down my favorite character.

Episode six covers a lot of ground, resolving Kana’s ever changing prophesy of imminent death and introducing an interesting new scientist character by the end.

In between, we get a totally pointless fanservice scene. During this scene Kazumi makes reference to seeing Kotori’s nipples during some kind of impromptu wet T-shirt contest, which seems to occur for no reason other than it being a hot day.  As you can see, there is blatant censorship here, especially once Kazumi takes off her top, and then forces Kotori to join the fun.

(Some playful sexual harassment from Kazumi aside, episode five was basically fanservice free.)

It probably makes me a bad person, but I desperately wanted to see Kotori make it out alive just so we’d be able to see her boobs later.  Gokukoku no Brynhildr obliged.  Bloody death and boobs, what an interesting dynamic this show has.
I know that we spotted nipples in a previous episode- I have zero doubt that the censorship is for real.  But we spotted nipples in Wizard Barristers too, and they still kept a portion of the nudity censored on blu-ray for some mysterious reason.

ARMS is really struggling to sell blu-rays right now and it shows by their ever changing business models and content decisions.  I think their decision to keep Wizard Barristers mostly censored was because they realized that nudity can often prevent more sales than it brings in- the highest selling anime are almost all non-nude and this is even more evident in the last four years.

I hope they don’t troll us here, though in fairness to them, the manga had censored nude scenes too.

Thankfully, this scene occurs during the tail end of the first box release (episodes 1-6).  Anything that happens after this, we’ll have to wait until late September to see the blu-ray version.
