A decade ago, Ikkitousen was the most famous and iconic fanservice anime in existence. Or at the very least, it was certainly the most infamous.

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that Ikkitousen was a pioneer on the ecchi genre landscape. It was essentially the first series to mix outright combat with nudity in said combat (as we’ve since seen with Master of Martial Hearts, Freezing, Sekirei, Seikon no Qwaser, etc.). Maybe it wasn’t the very first if you want to be technical, but it’s safe to say that when Ikkitousen came out back in 2004, it really was one of a kind.
It was also the first series made for TV that pushed fanservice quite as far as it did, and I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure it was the first ecchi series to release DVD bundled specials clearly meant to satisfy urges bestowed upon us by mother nature. Before ecchi boomed in 2008, Ikkitousen already had two seasons out, and it’s popularity is fairly likely to have been a factor in that boom.
Anyway, Ikkitousen is a great fanservice series, even if some of it is on the weird side. It’s remarkable that the first season of this show was actually produced by none other than JC Staff. After Ikkitousen finished it’s first season, JC Staff dropped the franchise and has yet to have a single instance of nudity in any production since (that I’m aware of, unless you count Read or Die TV which also aired in 2004/2005).
When it was all said and done, this video took 3 weeks to create, and I would guess about 300 hours of my time. Sorting by character and re-editing the audio for smoothness is a ton of work. That part alone accounted for the 3rd week. But it was worth it. Ryomou’s section alone made it worth it.
