It’s finally here, the most anticipated ecchi BD release of the past year. There was a lot to like. Mio’s succubus pact scene features some of the best boob play you’ll ever see in an ecchi anime.
Not since Seikon no Qwaser have we seen anything quite this intense in an actual episode of an anime. I think the term ‘borderline hentai’ is over-used, but this scene does feel that way. It feels like there is a line that can be crossed where something becomes unabashed erotica, and this scene blows past it.
I haven’t seen the actual episode, but the special (more on that in a bit) gives us a glimpse into how this scene was animated. And it is quite lewd. Mio’s boobs bounce, jiggle and contort into various shapes like Basara’s hands are kneading dough. To borrow the popular Funimation term, her ‘fun muffins’ are pretty much flying all over the place. Is Production IMS 100% sure it wasn’t Hiraku Kaneko doing the directing?
Once again, expectations have been blown away. Did I mention that the company that made this anime had never done nudity prior?
Edit: I just realized that almost the entirety of Mio’s amazing pact scene was NOT in the original broadcast version. So this scene itself is the “special”, kind of like how High School DxD New had the added scenes. Same thing here.
As far as the mini-OVA extra:
… it’s nothing more than a voice over play-by-play of the stuff we already saw from Mio’s pact scene in episode two.
I look forward to seeing it subbed.
As far as the BD extras:
It looks like there were a couple mini-posters that came with it. If you actually have the guts to hang the second one up, I salute your courage.
Like the Isuca release, there were also a lot of non-fanservice related fixes that improved the artwork and character design. This was much needed as the art quality definitely had some ugly moments throughout the series.
I loved the added scenes method used in High School DxD New , and I am very excited to see that this same method is being used in ShinmaiMaou . It means we really have no idea just how intense the remaining volumes might be.
Stuff of legend, right here.
Life is pretty good right now.
