Queen’s Blade Grimoire two episode OVA greenlit

More Queen’s Blade is coming.  The announcement was made by this month’s issue of Hobby Japan magazine.

Queen’s Blade: Grimoire  is a brand new chapter in the Queen’s Blade franchise, meaning it will take place in a separate universe from Queen’s Blade  or Queen’s Blade: Rebellion .

I have mixed feelings about this since the investment in Grimoire implies that Hobby Japan is probably done funding anime projects for the previous iterations, which is frustrating to me as they were just finally getting to the most interesting part of the series near the end of Vanquished Queens .

It’s also a bit of a bummer that this didn’t get a full anime the way the previous Queen’s Blade books did.  Two episodes isn’t anywhere near enough, and given past history with these OVA, they will probably look middling at best.

Grimoire  is actually the 4th book in the series, after Queen’s Blade , Queen’s Blade: Rebellion , and Queen’s Gate .  It’s interesting that they just skipped Queen’s Gate as an anime option, since it is by far the most fun sounding.  Queen’s Gate borrows characters from various other ecchi franchises, like Mai from Fatal Fury  or Katja from Seikon no Qwaser .  A Queen’s Gate anime will probably never happen if only because of creative license issues, but still, it would be awesome if it did.  It’d be like the ecchi franchise equivalent of The Avengers .

Queen’s Blade: Rebellion and Vanquished Queens struggled commercially, so it’s really a blessing to get any more Queen’s Blade at all.  I’m sure we’ll all be excited to see what Hobby Japan has in store for us.  Even though it’s only two episodes, it will be fun seeing an entire new cast wasting no time to get naked.
