Psychology and Perverts! That’s the ticket!! Wait, do those two even go together or are they like oil and water???
Anime
Anime de Wakaru Shinryounaika aka Comical Psychosomatic Medicine is an ONA that aired during Spring and Summer seasons of 2015 for 20 episodes. It’s a short anime with each episode being 5 minutes long.
From MAL:
The psychologist Ryou and his cheerful nurse Asuna explain many aspects of mental illness to the reader. They cover topics such as the validity, prevalence, and origins of mental disorders, in addition to addressing specific disorders. The information is imparted in a cheerful and comic manner, with various jokes, puns, and pop culture references.
Being a short ONA that tried to be both serious and funny at the same time, it seems to have flown under the radar of most anime fans. What caught my attention was seeing potential stitches with ecchi. And the dirty jokes…
Episodes 01 – 01
The OP is such a tease. Would be really nice to see more of these girls in future episodes even though Asuna, the nurse, says that’s not going to happen…
Not only is Asuna, a sexy nurse, she’s also a constant source of dirty jokes. Hard not to like her…
Do read the subs to catch some of the dirty jokes that are told more verbally than visually.
This anime does lips and lip gloss / lipstick right. Looks tasty…
When this anime short goes into serious / educational mode, there sometimes isn’t very much fanservice, so I’ve combined episodes for my reviews.
Boobs, butts, loli’s, S&M, skirt-flipping and harems, Anything and everything is fair game for a dirty joke in this anime…
Episodes 05 – 05
Asuna’s older sister, Iyashi, thinks she a goddess? LOL. Her lips are really sexy though. And well drawn for an anime…
Now goddesses and hostess clubs are fair game for gags…
Omake
Finally a panty shot! Too bad it’s in an omake…
Thoughts
Anime de Wakaru Shinryounaika is another anime that’s not for everybody. It’s a gag comedy first and foremost. Emphasis on gags. You either find it funny or you don’t. Plus it tries to be educational too. Mixing serious with comedy can be very hit-or-miss and there a LOT of misses. Plus anything and everything is fair game for a gag, including a lot of otaku memes. Definitely a YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) kind of show.
I needed a short for testing new tools and thought of this show for having potential stitches with ecchi but not seeing many out there. So I gave this short a shot. Short and sweet. Maybe not so sweet. Some nice stitches though. With more to come.
I did find the bits of psychology educational but it seemed out of place for a gag comedy and I’d be careful about taking it too seriously considering the source.
Too bad the show isn’t better. But mixing funny with serious rarely works out. But there are some dirty jokes that I found funny (but I have a dirty sense of humor that works for both visual and verbal dirty jokes).
But the creators made a big mistake in not vamping the nurse sisters more. And not working in the girls from the OP into the show. They should have used both sets of girls for the visual gags not just random girls. But more than anything else, more fanservice would have helped. Since you’re cracking dirty-jokes all the time, more fanservice should have been no big deal. Shame they didn’t since more and better ecchi would have made this show a lot more fun to watch…
I can’t really recommend watching this show unless you’re a fan of dirty jokes and won’t get too offended when a meme you like gets gored. The good news is that you can watch the entire show in less than 2 hours.
Notes
Looks like the home video release was DVD only and even then sales bombed. So I used the HDTV rips from when it was streamed. At least those are 720p. Keep in mind that’s it’s an ONA not an OVA so the video quality may not be as good.
Not all of my HD webms were included. You can find my album here: 01-05.
