Remember when totally forgettable anime could go three seasons solely by the merit of showing bare boobs? Those were the days.

As far as this series goes, it was pretty silly and I had a very hard time getting into the story. There are some ecchi series that are actually fun to watch, and then there are others that you just watch for the cheesecake. This was one of the latter for me. Not that I didn’t love it. I would be very happy to hear news of a season 4 if it were to happen. If a series has nipples, it’s a winner in my book. Keep em’ coming, Japan.
As far as the nudity style, I’m not against fake boobs, but I think natural is better, and because of that preference I always get a lot more out of series by Xebec (To Love-Ru series, Kanokon, Ladies vs. Butlers, Daughters of Mnemosyne) who always do such an awesome job of drawing natural curves. Dogakobo rests on the other side of the spectrum in their ecchi series. Any girl that isn’t flat looks like she had an obvious boob job, with ridiculously circle sharped, “hard” looking boobs. But hey, nude is nude.
Also in character for Dogakobo, the “fluff” type character designs that seem very generic. That’s not to say I dislike generic character designs. I think some of them really worked (Aisha and Sousou – I couldn’t get enough of those characters). The coloring in this show also really stood out, which is generally true in all of Dogakobo’s productions.
Apparently there were two version of this show released on BD, and those versions slightly alternated or added nude scenes. I’m not talking about adding nude scenes from TV, but adding them from one BD release to the next. Normally I would never catch this, but I happened to see a nude shot on Anime Fanservice Gallery while I was making this video and went back to find it, and couldn’t. The scene where the two girls jump in the bushes to show who’s better, it wasn’t on one of the versions. I picked up a different BD release randomly to check for it, and there it was. There was also a “fantasy” moment in season 1 that was drawn differently between the two versions. Luckily, I happened to catch all this and got all those incidents of fanservice in the final video. Normally, I would probably miss that.
I could be wrong but I think this video debuts my “steam removal” filters. From 2008-2010, it was wasn’t uncommon for nudity on BD to still be partially obscured with thick steam. I’m not sure if that was an attempt at modesty or an intentional decision to sexually frustrate viewers. Whatever the reason, it was short lived and by 2011 steam on BD was basically a thing of the past for ecchi BD releases.
While you’d always rather not have the steam in the way, it did make for some FUN filtering. Maybe more fun for me than for you guys, but it’s always neat to see how much detail can be exposed. This is one of my oldest videos, so the stream removal feature is a bit spartan in this one. The source quality for season 1 was dicey, making for video that isn’t always the prettiest. It got better in seasons 2 and 3 though.
The BDs came with several nude images that were also made into a calendar. The images were more revealing, sometimes nude, whereas the calender images were always non-nude versions. I included before-after for each image, with the changes ranging from sexy to subtle. The background music in each instance was the ED song for each respective season.
It’s pretty common these days for ecchi series to have notable seiyuu, but this one didn’t. I guess that’s understandable given how massive the cast was. Maybe the biggest “star” of this group is Kaori Mizuhashi, who plays a bit part as the strategist megane character in seasons 2 and 3. I wouldn’t even call her Mizuhashi a star, she’s not had very many leading roles, but I thought she was a show stealer in both Baka to Test (as Minami) and Queen’s Blade (as Elina). She’s one of the oldest seiyuu in the business (age 39), but nobody plays the “brat” type character as well as she does.
