I’m sitting down to write my thoughts, and I’m not sure if can get through this without embarrassing myself with praise for this OVA.
I mean, the first OVA was rock solid. Good action, a very high nudity ratio, good enough art when it mattered. Good overall product.
But the second OVA is a fucking fanservice masterpiece. The nosebleed moments are unrelenting and much more perverse than we’re used to with this series. Unchou was basically nothing more than a plaything in this episode, starting off in a wet T-shirt and getting progressively more erotic during her battle. I’d describe it, but it would read like letters to Penthouse.
And unlike previous Ikkitousen anime that could get a bit choppy with nudity in battles, this OVA was careful to give a ton of intense closeup shots that you could actually see without having to hit pause. There’s really no pretense left by the end. So much fun! I love watching ecchi that “gets it” like this OVA did.
More than that, this second OVA had nearly non-stop nudity. I don’t know if there was ever a three minute stretch without bare boobs. It reminds me of that episode of Boku H where Lisara runs around topless for an entire episode, except even more awesome in a way I couldn’t have imagined. Even the battles were pretty cool.
This was produced by ARMS. I don’t know if it will be successful enough to merit greenlighting a fifth season. Man, I hope so. ARMS definitely tried to make an impression, and I think their releasing these two episodes on TV ahead of the BD release date in February is a sign of confidence in their work.
