It’s Halloween so time for zombies.
Since it’s halloween might as well do a comp of something fitting. Especially since it has an anime announced for next year. Running since 2021 the manga is an adaption of a web novel from 2013. However there are multiple different adaptions as well. There is a 3 volume LN adaption, a 4 part VN, this manga adaption and an anime adaption next year. What is odd about all this is that the series never finished and was abandoned yet received all of this which has resulted in some issues. The web novel has been abandoned since early 2017. As a result the VN adaption had to create it’s own original ending to account for this. The LN being only 3 volumes also presumably did the same thing or simply stopped where the web novel ended. This manga adaption technically “finished” but it is not over. By that I mean volume 4 of the manga which came out this past April ends at where the web novel ended. However the afterward message from the artist in the volume states that the story will continue in the 5th volume and will be new territory. In other words the manga is now doing it’s own thing much like the VN as it has caught up to the dead source.
This makes the future anime adaption a big unknown on what they are going to do. Will the anime simply cover only the source and stop? Will it follow the manga instead including it’s original content that continues after where the source ends? Or will it do it’s own separate thing and be it’s own interpretation of the source with it’s own unique direction for the story after catching up? We still don’t know the studio or staff for the anime yet with the only information being that it will air in 2026 and on atx. So we can presume it wont be censored but as for the direction they take with the story that is up in the air because of the different directions the various adaptions of this have taken due to the source being unfinished.
As for the story itself. It is your standard zombie end of the world scenario however the main character has his own gimmick for the plot. The main character after losing his job stays inside all day and on the one day he goes out he gets bit by someone. Not knowing what that was about he goes home and gets sick and passes out for a few days. When he wakes up he discovers the world is now filled with zombies and everything has gone to shit. However he soon learns that the zombies wont attack him and will ignore him while only attacking others. He assumes this might mean they think he is a zombie as well since he was bit but for some reason didn’t turn. So he uses this to his advantage while keeping this ability to be ignored by the zombies a secret from everyone else. This results in him being able to walk around without issue and clear out areas and plan things out while manipulating people into thinking he is brave and so forth. This might be something that will chase people away from the story and I’m sure when the anime airs it will have plenty complaining but in short the main character isn’t a good person. Or maybe you can say he is like a hentai lead put into a zombie manga with women falling in love with despite everything else about him. But in short you aren’t getting a standard hero lead from this manga.
With all that said the story does deal with various things you don’t see often in this kind of stuff. Such as the logistics of surviving during a zombie outbreak and the planning and survival skills and strategy needed. The main character might be the type to drive some people away but if you ignore his personality there is some intellect to some of the things and plans he carries out. Also his ability doesn’t end up being some god mode eliminating any challenge. The story eventually introduces fairly early on smarter zombies as he learns that the more flesh a zombie eats the stronger and smarter they get with the smart ones actually being able to see him and eventually start attacking and strategize against him when they realize he is a threat. So the story has boss zombie enemies that appear at various times to give actual challenging fights. Despite the main character’s treatment of some others the story isn’t as edgy as some will probably claim when the anime does happen next year and there is more thought put into it than most will assume at first glance. Will be interesting to see what approach they will take when we get the anime next year with how they portray all of this. Also if they will increase the service since despite what it looks the amount of service to story ratio is rather small in the manga adaption. I looked at some bits of the web novel and the manga certainly trims down some stuff and of course you still have the VN. So the manga may or may not be a good judge on how much content we will get in the anime since it’s all up in the air how they will do the show so all we can do is wait till next year.

Been a long time since I did a halloween post or any new post for that matter. Almost had to cancel since my hdd started dying last week. Managed to back everything up and just need this to stay alive till black friday to get a new one. So probably my last post I ever do from this computer unless I do another comp which I kind of do have plans to do for another show that airs next year as well. Meant to do it last month but all well. All my posts since 2016 have been on this one. Guess next year will be the start of posts on a new computer. And me finally having shows to cover again since I will do this one and the other manga I plan a comp for.
