Amuro Ninagawa joins the swimming club at Umineko Shougyou High (“Umishou” for short). Her speed and unorthodox swimming style (plus her personal habit of nude swimming) surprises every club member.
Kenkou Zenrakei Suieibu Umishou is a manga series written and illustrated by Mitsuru Hattori, which has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine from 2005 to 2008. Artland (The studio that helmed Senran Kagura, Ichiban Ushiro no Daimaou, and Mushishi) produced an anime adaptation consisting of 13 episodes. It was directed by Kouichirou Soutome and written by Mamiko Ikeda, which premiered in Japan on numerous television stations during the Summer of 2007.
Umishou is a little gem not many talk about but has been a personal favorite of mine for years. Though it follows a typical Sports anime flowchart of events (Training, Procrastination, some big Regional tournament… all sports anime generally feel like Slam Dunk. This is basically that with swimming) it also has a great amount of fanservice and a great deal of comedy. I will say there is a lot of cutting back otherwise the video would have felt a bit cluttered seeing as most of the screen-time involves female characters in swimsuits and some of these shots aren’t exactly explicit so trimming was necessary. As for my next Fanservice Compilation look forward to Guardian Hearts.
