Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya is a manga series by Hiroshi Hiroyama. It is a spin-off of Fate/stay night, with Illyasviel von Einzbern as the protagonist. Various other characters from the Fate series also appear. A 10-episode anime television series adaptation by Silver Link aired between July and September 2013. A second anime season, adapting the sequel manga Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei!, aired between July and September 2014. A third season titled Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 2wei Herz! began airing in July 2015. A fourth season titled Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei! will begin airing on July 6, 2016.
Back in 2013 I read through the entirety of manga chapters released prior to the first season’s airing. I initially just saw it as a fluffy fun spin-off, but gradually it warmed to me as a proper entry in the Nasuverse. I’m very much looking forward to seeing Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya 3rei! animated, Non-manga readers should probably know that the series at 3rei! shifts in tone feeling more akin to typical Type-Moon fare, so yeah don’t expect much service. I feel like 3rei! will probably alienate viewers who are in it for the service, but I don’t mind as Part 3 is easily the series high-point so far.
