Futari Ecchi, or “The One and Only Step Up Love Story”…not sure how you get that out of Futari Ecchi, is a 4 episode OVA based off of a manga that has checks notes over 850 chapters and 88 volumes. It’s literally the One Piece of ecchi manga. It has over 27 million volumes in circulation. To put that into perspective, To Love Ru has 16.5 million volumes in circulation. It is also still actively being published to this day.
So naturally it has run just as long as One Piece, right? Not quite. There are only 7 episodes for this. Once in 2004 when a four episode OVA was released and in 2014 when this 3 episode OVA was released. Since there is so much material to cover both OVAs have completely different scenes. While it may have clearly outsold To Love Ru, it doesn’t have a TV show with insane production quality.
The manga itself is a sex education series made by a team of people that are trying to get the word out that sex is good.
