While the anime industry has shied away from nudity in recent seasons, 8 bit has ever so slowly embraced it more and more.

Three episodes were covered in this volume which was nice (all the remaining volumes will have two).
I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, but apparently there was a fanservicey extra mini-OVA that came with it- pretty cool considering that sites like CDJapan did not list a special in their product descriptions- and also because (to the best of my knowledge) 8-bit has always avoided this extra expense in the past.
The special features Yumiko in a bunny suit. She may have been frigid and hard to like early in in the series, but this scene is anything but icy. Would have been nice if they had taken it to the next logical place, but by soft-service standards it doesn’t get a lot better than this.
Apparently this special even had a tiny bit of nudity as well, a still image has some bare boobs at the end. A bit of a consolation prize, but this is 8 bit we’re talking about. Baby steps.
Of course, the big news is that Amane’s potentially glorious exhibitionist scene from the first episode proved to be actually glorious on BD. (I just hope they had the sense to add a creditless version of that scene in the extras). I don’t think anyone ever really had much doubt about the nudity, but it’s still nice to see what 8 bits first 100% totally blatant full frontal no bullshit nude scene would look like. Here it is, and it looks great.
Just my meaningless opinion, but I thought Grisaia was easily the best ecchi anime of the Fall season. Good story, relatively good art and animation, and refreshingly mature. It’s a breath of fresh air when an anime can be good AND show boobs. The special is a nice touch, it will be needed in later volumes when the fanservice takes a near total hiatus in the series’ second half.
