The Ikkitousen franchise briefly returns after four years of dormancy. Extravaganza Epoch wasn’t always pretty, but the action was good and the service level was as high as ever.
Over four series and a 2011 OVA, the Ikkitousen franchise has frequently diverged from the manga and instead relied on anime original material. That’s probably for the best since the original Battle Vixens manga can be as disturbing as it is sexy.
If this OVA seemed kind of grotesque and weird, it’s because it’s relatively faithful to some of the more recent manga volumes.
I have a hunch that ARMS released this OVA as a bit of a trial balloon. If it had sold well, it probably would have given them the confidence to do another season. Unfortunately, the sales for this OVA have been just as poor as any other ARMS series released over the past two years. So the prospect of another Ikkitousen season seems doubtful for now.
We might get another OVA in a few years I guess, if ARMS decides to try their luck again.
