Iwa Kakeru! Sport Climbing Girls Episode 4 Fanservice Review

Konomi overcomes an obstacle

After a sudden one month time skip, Konomi has a major breakthrough in her attempts to climb the anti-monkey mountain from last week. She also receives a power up in the form of new grip shoes that figure to help her in future competitions. We get a closer look at rival teams near the end of the episode as well.

I typically would have omitted this nightmare inducing image (for some). But we’re close to halloween so it seemed appropriate.

After a number of failed attempts, Konomi finally gets over her fear of falling and climbs atop the mountain. It’s a bit disappointing that there is a timeskip in between the last episode and now, as the build up isn’t enough to make this moment feel gratifying, but you at least know she’s been working day in day out to surpass this obstacle and has been rewarded for that effort.

Konomi has a moment with her biggest fan, Kiku, and the two start what is sure to be a long friendship with mild lesbian overtones.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on preferences), this teasing only amounts to gratuitous foot fanservice as the shop worker fits Konomi for climbing shoes.

Idk if intentional or not, but her feet look disfigured in this shot. This would make sense for someone who climbs stuff for a living and places so much stress on their feet. Or it could just be lack of detail by a studio under a time crunch. No way to be sure.

After watching ecchi anime for so long, you become desensitized to ridiculous scenarios. So seeing shop girl hold a customers foot to her ear like an Iphone didn’t surprise me so much as it was funny to look at.

Konomi gets fitted for some shoes that will boost her stats +5 across the board. To say that she loves them is an understatement.

The rest of the episode introduces some of the rival teams they’ll be facing. Most of them are toned waifus.

Each of the schools participating in an upcoming tournament are led by elite climbers, known as the great danes. Our heroes have one of them of course. How they differ in terms of technique is to be determined.

The episode ends with some girl approaching Konomi with a grudge to settle over ballet competitions. The most relevant thing here is that Konomi did ballet as a kid, which helps to explain why she is so good at climbing with such limited experience. Next episode figures to start a new batch of competitions and put the training of our heroines to the test.
