I wasn’t sure how much service to expect from this anime.  On the one hand, similar anime in the past have featured nude service, but those anime were not based on a super popular game like Kancolle  is.

I think what we got was a compromise.  There are some mild panty shots, lots of cleavage from the villain (of the week?), some clothing destruction and even a couple of very brief bathing scenes.  These bathing scenes are at medium distance and do not appear to be set up for BD nudity, but they are a nice touch.  A reference of sorts to Strike Witches.

The episode itself was super moe and super gorgeous, one of the best looking ecchi anime to come out in a long time.  The vibe of the show might best be described as a cross between Girls und Panzer  and Black Rock Shooter.

This is the best looking animation Diomedea has yet done.  It mixes 3D with 2D about as well as any anime has, and if not for some occasional “lagginess” in the 3D models, I’d honestly have been tricked into thinking the CG portions were 2D.  It seems the anime industry is starting to get close to making CG anime viable, at times even beautiful.

My gut feel is that those bath scenes will stay murky on BD.  But the fact that the possibility even exists is kinda nice.  There seems to be at least one anime that surprises us with nudity every season.

In other news, Isuca  will air CENSORED on AT-X, per the station’s website (the blue japanese text signifies no explicit content).  This isn’t really surprising at all.  Each of ARMS last three TV series all aired censored and then added nudity on BD.

A special thanks to reader Gunfire2456 who went through considerable effort and expense to order the first two BDs of Momo Kyun Sword  from Japan.  That’s four episodes worth.  Unfortunately his report on the contents is what we all expected:  no nudity, no changes.
