The time has come to make a bit of an announcement. Or a plea. Something like that. Please read on, I’m in need of some help.
It’s been almost two years since I started work on my first ever compilation video, and almost a year and a half since this site launched. Originally, my intention was just to have a place to put my videos, since I didn’t want to be the only person to enjoy them. At the time, Aisle H was still a thing, and as a big fan of the site I had no intention of competing.
But of course, Aisle H folded up shop a couple of months after I started this thing, and there came a lot of requests from readers for anime coverage during the Fall 2013 season, that one season with a ridiculous nine nudey animes in it. I obliged and you know what? It was a lot of fun.
Covering ecchi anime has become a regular occurrence since then. It is in a lot of ways my favorite thing about this site now, not only because the writing is fun, but because it generates awesome discussion and insights from you guys.
Unfortunately, this has taken away a ton of time from making videos and manga compilations. I used to make about 1-2 videos a week, now it’s about 1-2 videos a month. To be sure, there is something nice about hitting the grindstone less, but at the same time, there are a lot of shows I’d like to make videos for and I don’t want it to take 15 years to get there.
So why not just drop threads and focus on videos? Something I learned as a blogger years ago is that the best way to grow a site is to bring quality, daily content. Give a people a reason to keep coming back every day, and not only does it help the site grow, but it also helps encourage discussion and feedback. If people only checked in a couple times a month, this place would be dead and there wouldn’t be any sort of community aspect. Given that the comments can often be the best thing about this site, having daily content is very important to me.
Now there is also a personal side to this. For the duration of this site’s existence, I have lived a ‘bare necessities’ lifestyle, earning only enough money to get by and keep the site running, so that I could free up plenty of time to plan content and make videos. Unfortunately, the time has now come where I will need to pick up an extra job to make ends meet, and that means I’ll have a lot less time on my hands going forward.
I think you guys can probably see where this is going.
I very much enjoy this site and have no plans to shut things down. However, the current quota I’ve been putting up by myself isn’t going to continue much longer. So this is where I want to ask you guys for help.
I never really wanted this blog to be about me, but about ecchi fandom, especially since it kind of took over after Aisle H closed down. I am looking for individuals to help me with content. That way, this site can be better than ever instead of receding when my free time takes a dive in the next couple months.
The other thing too is, I get a lot of requests for stuff I just don’t have time for. Like covering obvious non-nude mainstream anime or manga, or making opinion based discussion starters. There’s also some stuff from the hentai side of things that is worth sharing here, and then you have merchandise like ecchi figurines, posters, and such. There is SO MUCH out there to cover, and it would make this place way cooler if there were more voices to bring it.
In particular, I would especially appreciate help with regards to anime coverage. I just don’t have the time to watch more than 2 or 3 anime a season, and the episode recaps can be quite time consuming. Several awesome posters such as Mayama, Anonecchi, MaxPower, Frame Freeze, etc have been Johnny on the spot in the comments with pics from the latest episodes, almost always within a few hours of the episode coming out. If I could form a team to work on anime coverage together, we could cover ALL ecchi anime, not just the ones with the most potential for a future video.
I know this sounds like a lot to ask, but I think the most important thing for this site right now is forming a team. I want to be part of a team, preferably the part of the team that cranks out videos like a madman.
Please understand that I don’t need workaholics. If you can cover 1 episode a week for 1 currently airing anime series, that would help me immensely. If all you want to do is share the pics of your figurine or hentai collection, I’d love to see it. Want to write anime reviews every now and then? Or start discussion / opinion topics? Sounds awesome to me! Maybe you have ecchi manga that no one else has and you want to share it or talk about it. Or maybe you even have your own videos. Whatever it is, I’m down with trying it out.
