Testament ends its second season with the usual service escapades. It was an amusing way to spend 23 minutes, though not nearly as salacious as the previous season’s OVA had been.

One of the things I liked the most in this episode were the juxtapositions to critters copulating while erotic stuff happened off screen. Swapping from Chisato reverse-raping Basara to the praying mantis eating her mate was a nice touch.
This episode stands in stark contrast to the remarkably compartmentalized nature of the series to this point. Normally, an episode would be serious and focus on story about 75% of the time, and then take small breaks here and there to dish out the service in bursts. Due to the concentrated and focused nature of the service scenes, it created the feeling of going from a type-A anime to a softcore hentai very suddenly.
However in this OVA, there is no story to speak of at all, it’s just a bunch of random lousing around at home, at school, at the Japanese festival, etc. Really this episode felt like a tamer version of To Love-Ru Darkness 2nd in that slice of life elements dominated the service down time.
Unfortunately, the angles and views are not that great and a lot of the shots feel unduly restrained. When we do get a nice shot, it’s often cropped too tight or doesn’t last but a second or two. And seemingly every nipple is partially covered.
Of course, this OVA was still more raunchy than most nude ecchi series, so it’s hard to complain. I guess I just expected more.
It’s hard to say if we’ll see more of this series. The first volume sold around 4k so it’s probably reasonable to guess that the final average might be 3.5k. That’s right on the borderline of justifying another season. But if this is it, then what a nice little run Testament had. If only every anime season could have a pleasant surprise like Testament was this time last year.
