This anime was weird and didn’t make a lick of sense, but it hardly matters when Xebec is working their fanservice magic.

Thoughts on the anime
As said before, this show was weird and nonsensical, even the music lent itself to a mood of affable insanity. This show had a lot more to do with boobs (and riding carp), than actual tennis.
But really, I could care less. Nobody draws boobs better than Xebec, and this anime basically served as their nude service warm up for To Love-Ru Darkness .
Unfortunately, very few otaku will buy BDs only for well drawn bare boobs, and this series ended up being a fairly massive flop during a time when even failed ecchi series were usually still pulling in 2k+ averages. Not even a stellar seiyuu cast could change this anime’s fortunes.

Thoughts on the fanservice video
Just a standard video with really high end art to work with.
The last couple specials humorously point this out- Softenni is a bit unique as a nude-service anime in that almost all of the characters have A-cup breasts. It takes a lot of artistic talent to make small breasts look as sexy as big ones, but Xebec is really strong in this area. If anything, Xebec often makes small breasts look sexier than big ones due to their talent for drawing natural curves.

Favorite Character
None of the characters are especially appealing. Shizuka Itou is always a charmer, but she feels like a miscast for the free-spirited Chitose. I guess I’ll go with Kotone on account of her being voiced by the slightly obnoxious but always sexy Eri Kitamura.
