This may not have been a great anime, but the animation is better than static screenshots made it out to be and the service level was quite high for a fantasy-action anime.

Thoughts on the anime
Unbreakable Machine Doll (Machine-Doll wa Kizutsukanai ) is set in an alternate history version of the early 20th century in Europe, with anachronistic levels of technology and even elements that resemble magic. Many other anime have used this type of setting before, most famously Full Metal Alchemist .
Though the art style is a bit odd- the characters all look glassy and shiny as if they were made out of porcelain (and not just the doll characters, everyone is like this)- the overall animation is very fluid and easy on the eyes. I admit, I just watched this anime recently and underestimated how good the animation was. This is a pretty big step up for Lerche, who have only headed a small number of anime titles.
The animation appears to be a combination of 2D anime and cleverly concealed 3D cel shading. Anime such as Knights of Sidonia could definitely take a page from this anime to learn how to animate in 3D and still have animation that is mostly pretty.
Animation and boobs aside, unfortunately there wasn’t much to like about the anime itself. Despite a very solid collection of seiyuu, the performers caught some kind of bad acting bug and it spread to nearly the whole cast. Lines are delivered in such a wooden manner, even by veteran seiyuu with a lot of ability for expression. This wasn’t a disappointing seiyuu performance, it was a terrible one.
The directing, use of music, and tone was surprisingly similar to Shakugan no Shana , which was also a bit too corny and stiff at times but was handled better overall. Like Shana , Unbreakable Machine Doll is a fantasy action anime that also mixes in elements of fanservice, though obviously Machine Doll takes things much further.
Despite being a mediocre anime with surprisingly bad seiyuu performances, Machine Doll ended up being the 4th highest selling nude-ecchi series of the last two years. The only such anime to sell better during the last two years were To Love-Ru Darkness , both seasons of High School DxD , and Vividred Operation .
This series sold more copies per volume than Maken-Ki! Two and sold more than Yuushibu and FREEZING Vibration combined (which both aired during the same season as Machine Doll ). I certainly don’t think this is on merit as all of those series are generally accepted as being better than Machine Doll is. But, you look at the theme of robotic girls who are eager to please and look custom made to put on a pillow, and the boost in success is really not too mysterious. Not that I am complaining. I would take five Unbreakable Machine Dolls every season. If a little bit of Otaku pleasin’ is what it takes, then so be it.

Thoughts on the fanservice video
The anime contains four ED versions, three of them each contain a unique fanservice shot. I re-edited the ED to contain all the service from every version.
There is nude service in three of the specials, four if you count nudity from a flashback. There is a lot of nudity in the early episodes of anime but it never lasts long. The specials are where this show does most of its servicing, similar to Maken-Ki! Two . It also gives us some very nice nude scenes for characters who kept their clothes on in the anime.
I have to give Lerche credit, the production values were very nice in the specials. A lot of competiting ecchi series tried to save money by skimping on the animation for the BD extras, so it’s nice to see a show that thinks even the extras should look nice. Especially considering their importance to fans who watch mainly for the service.

Favorite Character
Not a great anime for characters, honestly. I guess I’ll have to go with Shouko Karyuusai, who was this show’s designated voluptuous/seductive older woman type.
