Witchblade is an anime series based on the American comic book of the same name published by Top Cow Productions, from 1995 to 2015. Production of the anime was overseen by Gonzo, The show ran for 24 episodes between April 6, 2006, and September 21, 2006. Instead of an adaptation of the original story, the series features an entirely new setting with all new characters. The series centers around Masane Amaha, who was found at ground zero of a catastrophe that destroyed Tokyo with an infant in her arms, a jewel on her wrist, and no memory of how she came to be there.
I honestly had no idea this was based on a Western Comic at all until I had watched the series finale and started digging around for info. Service wise… I’m a bit torn on this show. See on one hand I did like the show. The female cast is courtesy of Makoto Uno (Character Designs for Rail Wars!, Seikon no Qwaser, Gravion, and Love Hina). But I personally would have liked to see more of the human forms of some of the female cast. Most of the service comes from the Witchblade forms. This isn’t necessarily that bad and it actually makes the service stand out and most of the Witchblade forms are great, Its semi nude women fighting each other you can’t go wrong there. But still would have loved seeing more of Masane, Shiori (Best Girl), and Maria in their human forms. Other than that I really enjoyed this one, The pacing sometimes was a bit too slow but nonetheless a fun show.
