2.5 Dimensional Seduction Episode 02 Anime Fanservice Review

Some wins, some losses.

Mikari enters the scene.

Before I get to that, however, Hashimoto-sensei made this tweet explaining that Mikari was originally intended to be the female lead and that the Seduction in the title refers to her. She was also supposed to be named Ririsa. Ririsa was then spun into an entirely different character. He also asked that Akari Kito be the one that voices Mikari, and they went out and got her to voice the character. That removes the mystery from the title.

Mikari opens with a bold statement in support of weeb genocide. This may be the way each episode opens. A cold open about the material within the episode > OP > actual episode. I do expect some anime original content as well. There is some in this episode even if it’s slight.

Mikari arrives as a new student that catches everyone’s eye, even Lilysa. Unfortunately, the cutting of Okumura’s dream removes a key character moment for him that is no fault of the translator since they’re obviously overworked and slobbering at the keyboard. There are typos and other errors in the script. Removing that scene meant that they wouldn’t catch that Okumura often doesn’t finish sometimes when he’s speaking of either Lilysa or Lilliel and thus it’s ambiguous as to who he is talking about. Lilysa and Lilliel works in the official translation for the manga because they cut it at the “Lil…” which is a good enough substitute for the Japanese “リリ…” (riri…)

Lilysa finds a camera and tells Okumura to take more pics of her. She also mentions the new girl in class and she’d make a rocking Miriella. The fang add is anime only and a nice touch that makes her hotter.

Originally, in the manga this is a shot of Lilysa’s panties. It utterly boggles the imagination that there are cropped shots of her panties in episode one showing her booty and then one that shows her front. Moreover, this can easily be fixed in the blu-ray. Much like ogres, anime has layers. It would not be too much of a stretch of the imagination for them to slide Okumura to the right to reveal Lilysa’s panties. This I would put at a higher probability than nipples showing up in the blu-rays. This doesn’t require a redraw like the scene I pointed out in episode one either.

Here’s another shot that is obviously cropped. I believe these shots will be uncropped in the blu-ray BUT Hashimoto-sensei tends to go the extra mile and put in camel toe. There are scant few anime that even have camel toe so I do not think we will get to see Lilysa’s in the blu-ray.

Another student dumps a bucket of water on Mikari. Clear foreshadowing that this adaptation is watered down.

After finding Okumura, Mikari hits the audience with her thigh gap.

I am never a fan of when there’s a shot that tries to do some gymnastics backflip 720 no scope on the frame. This happens in way too many anime though so it doesn’t surprise me that it’s here. It’s a show, not Tony Hawk’s pro-skater. Stop doing this.

This shot may go a little lower in the blu-ray. I’m not sure though. It seems pretty clear that they’re not allowed to show the butt at all on the TV broadcast.

This is anime original. The panel exists in the manga but Mikari’s body is largely covered with a text box.

This shot looks cropped. It’s bizarre that they wouldn’t just show Mikari’s blushing face here and fill the entire frame with it. I’m not saying they’re going to deliver the nips on the blu-rays because I don’t expect them, but this frame gives me some pause.

Okumura trips and falls on a doujinshi. Mikari likes this development and asks him to “Stay just a little bit longer.” Not sure on this but it seems to me like this is a reference to the song Stay by Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs which is used in the soundtrack of Dirty Dancing. The song has been covered over and over. Maybe it’s just my imagination. There is, however, a clear reference to the movie later that “Nobody puts Lilliel in the corner,” among other movie, pop culture and anime references. These scenes surprised me because they showed way more than I was expecting. I expected her to be covered by the jacket the entire time.

Mikari is surprised at Okumura taking his jacket off which she interprets as him about to raw dog her. It’s not the time or place, but she’s also not opposed to him throwing it in her.

The rest of the episode is Mikari recounting Okumura’s trauma and why she likes him only to cough up one more scene of service:

This would require a redraw.

The episode ends on them flexing the animation budget on Mikari’s hair, then her discovering Lilysa dressed as Lilliel in the clubroom with Okumura.

Episode 02 covers chapters 4, 5, 6 and a few pages of chapter 7. I’d give low chances of the cut content from chapters 2 and 3 reappearing unless those are blu-ray extras. Those are few and far between.
