Ayakashi Triangle Episode 03 Fanservice Review

A breather

This episode’s service total is reduced in favor of plot progression and the introduction of a new character. The inconsistency in Matsuri’s panty shots also continue to baffle.

Out of gratitude for what Matsuri has done for her, Suzu thinks of a way to placate Shirogane through feeding him something more delicious than herself.

Shirogane continues trying to steal the scroll, but Matsuri denies him.

Matsuri feeds Shirogane some less than desirable leftovers, but Suzu anticipated this and delivers the meal she cooked last night to Shirogane. The idea of being won over through just a simple meal causes Shirogane to scoff until he actually tastes it, which sends him into Food Wars esque food induced jubilation due to Suzu’s ayakashi medium life force seeping into the food.

Thinking on how Suzu behaves so bravely in the face of the ayakashi that wants to devour her, Matsuri is reminded of his own past with ayakashi.

Matsuri detects an ayakashi near the house and immediately leaps into action. Though the ayakashi is gone before Matsuri can confront it, a feather from its body was left behind – Matsuri’s grandfather mentions it’s from a familiar, an type of ayakashi that seem to be allied with humans, and assumes that it was sent here to spy on them.

A nice series of stitches.

We get another flashback to Matsuri’s past – this time detailing his beginnings as an exorcist. We also get an official introduction to another exorcist, Soga, who thought of Matsuri as a rival that would push him to greater heights.

Disappointed in what Matsuri has become, Soga leaves to confront Shirogane.

There were several frames of visible panties from Matsuri, but this was probably the best. It lasted for about 9 frames, so I think the editors thought that putting a Shirogane censor would draw attention to it, whereas most would otherwise miss this because it was so brief.

Soga chides Matsuri for being selfish enough to keep Shirogane instead of exorcising him. Matsuri tries to pursue Soga but is not fast enough to keep up with him.

A flurry of panty shots from Matsuri. It’s become very clear the editors are fine with letting these minor panty shots through, but don’t want to allow the blatant, detailed shots for the TV broadcast.

Matsuri’s skirt blowing up due to the wind causes Soga to flee in embarrassment. Though he has been repelled for now, the victory is a hollow one – his return is almost certain.

The end of the episode features a reunion between the main characters. Suzu vows again to become friends with Shirogane, while Matsuri looks on with a feeling of happiness, noting that while nothing has changed, everything is still fine.

This brings us to the end of Chapter 5. The pace of 2 chapters per episode seems likely to hold through the duration of the broadcast, and speaking of which:

The broadcast has been delayed due to the spread of Coronavirus. In particular, episode 5 and onward. This is not the only Aniplex anime to be delayed – the Nier Automata broadcast was also delayed, so some speculated Triangle would receive the same treatment. Given the time frame for the sale of the first BD volume (September), it seems likely that this will resume during the Summer season at the earliest. As for what I’ll do between now and Spring, I really don’t know. I was really looking forward to finishing this season strongly, and having to wait several months to resume Triangle is a bit of a bummer. I’m sure I’ll think of something though – but if there’s any other currently airing anime you’d like me to pivot to, let me know.
