Blade and Soul vol.01 mini-review

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting much out of the disc specials.

Today I downloaded and watched the first blu-ray, and there weren’t any noteworthy BD changes outside of the ones anonecchi mentioned in the comments last week.

The special was a real let down.  It featured minimal animation and chibi characters.  Shows like Seikon no Qwaser , Manyuu Hikenchou , Master of Martial Hearts  and even Code Geass  had nice fanservice specials with static photos and/or minimal animation, but in this case the first special has nothing to do with service.  I’m not sure it has to do with anything.

Included in the video at the top is Aruka’s bathing scene, uncensored on BD in HD quality.  Here’s an alternate link just in case Dailymotion craps on me again, and if you want it on your hard drive, you can get the file here.

It’s hard to know how reliable sales figures are when they are very low, but Blade and Soul’s first blu-ray is reported to have sold only 362 copies so far, making it one of the worst selling shows of 2014.

That’s not surprising.  Ecchi shows usually sell poorly, especially in recent seasons.  What did surprise me is that Seikoku no Dragonar’s  first volume only managed 919 blu-rays sold so far.  Dragonar  was pretty good by ecchi standards, but it just didn’t do enough to appeal to Otaku apparently.
