Some good news (and be sure to clear your cache)

The site has now been officially moved to a new host that is okay with the kind of content we post around here.

Previously, the site had been using a low-cost shared hosting service from a provider that arbitrarily could shut down sites for even the slightest of adult content.  After researching alternative hosting services a great deal while hearing a lot of good advice, I’ve now moved the site to a VPS option that allows adult content and generally has a “hands off” content philosophy.

The only catch is that a VPS (private server) tends to be a lot more expensive, and in this case it’s a bit of a flexible pay as you go system, meaning we can’t really know exactly how expensive it will be for a few days still.  Regardless, it’s expected that costs won’t get TOO high and this new host will be the place we call home for the foreseeable future.  With the help of regular small donations from readers, I don’t expect costs to be that big an issue.

So what does that mean for you guys?

It means site content on the front page will not have to hold things back anymore.  The “fanservice compilation” and “manga fanservice compilation” directories on the menu have now been restored.  I had been avoiding nudity on the front page most of the last two weeks just to be safe, but that period of caution is over now.  The site is back to being in “unrated” status, figuratively speaking.

Now that the site is now officially safe from a takedown, I’ll start linking streamed compilation videos back on the site.  More on that in a minute.

One of the really nice benefits of this whole episode is that it got the site on a private server.  Remember all the issues with database connections and slow load times?  That was mostly due to some crappy shared hosting service.  I’d pin that on my former host, but truthfully any time you go for low cost shared hosting with any company this is probably going to happen more often than not.

For the next few hours/days there might be some ultra slow loading, as we’re working to optimize the site on the new host.  But once this optimization is complete, that should mean much faster loading than the previous host had and also much better image loading (for the other authors out there who had to deal with brutal image loading the last two weeks).

Now, with regards to videos I am still trying to figure this one out.  Unfortunately, Vid.me is a pretty sucky video streaming site for HD, at least currently it is.  Any time I upload a 1080p or 720p video, the final product is basically a non-adjustable 360p with visible pixelation.  I am in contact with them right now to learn more about my options with them.  But one way or another I’ll have streamed video back on the site in the near future.

Beyond that, I am considering making changes to the site itself.  I do like the current format, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

Update:  Some people are not seeing newer content.  This has been confirmed to be a cache issue, probably because it was immediately after this post that the site started using cloudflare as a caching intermediary.  If this post is the newest one on your screen, clearing your cache should fix that problem.
