Thoughts on the anime
With high production values, well drawn characters / nudity, a terrific seiyuu cast, a Kintaro Oe type lead, and a decent enough plot to pass as a semi-action anime, this show had little trouble living up to the hype.
Though I must confess, I only rarely watch these shows for anything other than the nudity. There are a few exceptions out there- shows like Haganai, Ranma 1/2, Outlaw Star, Ninja Scroll, Code Geass and Golden Boy would be among my favorites with or without the nudity.
So I say that as nothing against DXD- these series are super fun- but I really do view most ecchi basically as a unique form of softcore porn. Anyone that says “why not just watch hentai” just doesn’t get it.* For me, I watch ecchi with a similar mentality that a lot of people have when playing eroge. It’s not just the result, it’s the journey.
*I love hentai, don’t misunderstand.
TNK hadn’t had a major success since School Days way back in 2006, so they needed this anime to pay off pretty badly. They gambled big on this series with the production values and that gamble paid off. Then again, that lack of success probably has something to do with the fact that more than half of their productions have involved nude fanservice, which until recently was a tough sell as it had only a niche following.

Thoughts on the fanservice video
Totaling 48 minutes and 50 seconds, this is comparable in length and nudity level to Manyuu Hikenchou and FREEZING. I’d probably put it in the top five videos I’ve made to this point, and the exciting thing is that I know DXD New will be even better. At some point next Spring I will probably make a two season video for DXD sorted by character, and I fully expect it to break two hours in length. Seikon no Qwaser might not be my longest video a few months from now.
Not only did this anime have good art, good character design and was drawn for nudity well, but it also had plenty of opportunities for enhancement in the edit- particularly the OP and ED. The ED is my favorite non-nude closing off all time. Why can’t every ecchi anime have their girls climbing stipper poles and shaking their asses? I didn’t do a whole lot to change it, other than some subtle swinging zooms that I felt were an improvement, as well as some timely pauses.
I had a lot of silly fun with this project, as you’ll see when you watch it.

In the long term, Akeno. But for the first half of the show, Yuuma hands down. She may be evil, but she’s smokin’ hot.
