You probably know of Panty & Stocking for being a bizarre combo of pop culture parodies, sexual innuendo puns and a deformed aesthetic that resembles the thick lined art of the powerpuff girls. Many consider it the strangest anime ever produced by studio Gainax, which is saying a lot.
Though the two main characters are unabashed lazy gluttons and omega sluts (especially panty and her episodical sex adventures), it can be hard to pop a boner when the aesthetic is so out of proportion. But every so often the artstyle shifts to a more modern look and the fanservice increases exponentially with it. This first occurs during the magical girl transformation sequences that always devolve into super energetic strip teases.

I somehow avoided watching P&S for ten years, so I was both recording the fanservice portions for a potential review and laughing at the pop culture parodies/perverted humor. Was fun to follow female leads who embraces their inner hoe and give no fucks about decorum despite constant lectures to be a responsible human being. Don’t think P&S is trying to go for any female empowerment angles – if anything it’s mocking ideas of feminism, but you can interpret it as a message to be yourself in spite of pushback from authority.
I’m late to the “P&S needs a season 2” train. Would be cool if it happened and the team that joined Trigger were behind the production. But I’m also partial to WTF endings that have no obvious interpretations and can be debated until the end of time. Episode 13 is certainly that.
Complete or batch reviews is still my favorite approach to posting. Looking to do more during the Spring season as there are so few shows worth even considering for weekly reviews.
