This season looks pretty dead, but plenty of good things are just over the horizon.
I put each of the notable shows this season into tiers below:
- Tier 1 is for series with possible mild fanservice.
- Tier 2 is for series where nudity is conceivable (but still unlikely).
- Tier 3 is for series that had nudity in the source material.
- Tier 4 is for series where nudity in the anime is guaranteed.

Manga adaptations of light novels are not a perfect barometer for what an anime will do.
With that said, the manga briefly broke the nipple barrier in volume 12 a few months back. Granted, it’s only one scene out of thirteen volumes of something that technically isn’t even the original source of the story.
My hopes aren’t high, but it does make the anime just a little more interesting.
Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu Ω begins airing on April 9th.
Tier 4
Kuro Gal ni Natta kara Shinyuu to shitemita.

The R-18 anime for the season. A guy turns his buddies into sexy kuro gyaru’s then has sex with them.
Kuro Gal ni Natta kara Shinyuu to shitemita. begins airing on April 5th.
Notable OVA
Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru no Darou ka III OVA
April 28th. Good for fans of low level fanservice.
Sidonia no Kishi Movie
May 14th. The TV anime had a fair amount of nudity, hopefully the movie sneaks in a scene or two.
Overall Thoughts:
Without a doubt, this is a weak ecchi season, it almost couldn’t be any weaker. There’s a very high chance that a gender-swap R18 show will be the only source of nipple sightings.
The future looks better though. Both last year’s Ishuzoku Reviewers and last season’s Kaifuku Jutsushi no Yarinaoshi appear to be major commercial successes, and it should be pretty clear to the industry now what audiences want, which is more hardcore ecchi series that do more than just tease audiences. A second season at some point is a strong possibility for both shows, but even if they don’t get one, it seems a forgone conclusion that their success will encourage similar manga and light novel to get future anime.
Everyone now understands that it pays to shock viewers, and there are plenty of ecchi manga currently running that can do that.
But it’s not just speculation about future shows that’s worth being optimistic about. There are already several announced ecchi shows of interest.
A top tier ecchi series in World’s End Harem is probably arriving next season, or in the Fall at worst (it was promised as a 2021 release). Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo has an anime coming too- the manga is loaded with uncensored sex scenes. Megami-ryou no Ryoubo-kun is getting an anime, and the PV heavily implies nipples on BD (the manga delivers). So there’s three pretty good ecchi shows minimum in the near future.
So while this season is very quiet, it looks like the next several seasons should be pretty interesting.
