Thoughts on the anime
I’ll be honest, I pretty much only read the manga for the sexy bits. So when I blogged the anime last year I was pleasantly surprised how solid the story and characters were. It would probably be fair to call this anime a “time waster”, but it was a pleasant waste of time.
But of course, this anime didn’t get made because of the story, it got made because it’s sexy. Xebec is the GOAT when it comes to fanservice anime and for the most part this anime lives up to that standard. Given they didn’t have the budget for these kinds of shows that they did a decade ago, I think the final product was about as good as could have been hoped for.
Shortly after this anime aired, Xebec was purchased and renamed to Sunrise Beyond. It seems that the new company is still in its foundational stages and as far as I know have yet to announce any anime projects nearly a year after the move was made official. Hopefully it is not the last of this talented staff working on harem ecchi, but if it is, they can hold their heads high with pride, they produced great works all the way to the end.
Anyway, blah blah blah. The tits and ass in this anime were fantastic. Not Ladies versus Butlers level but still pretty good. As such it shouldn’t be a surprise that this series made for an awesome compilation video- Xebec’s nudey works always do. What DID surprise me was how long it ended up being, checking in at almost two hours in length. I’m not sure, but that’s probably a personal record for a single season of a show that didn’t have specials (though I guess you could argue three extra episodes is the same thing).
Part of the reason it was longer was that this time I edited the video a little differently than normal. Typically, the ‘all fanservice’ section is just a very straightforward, minimalist edit of anything of note fanservice wise from a given series. The more intense looping and zooming edits are generally saved for the T ‘n A sections.
However, I find that when watching my own videos I’m skipping past the all fanservice sections, since they don’t have the loops or zooms. There’s kind of a feeling of missing out.
So this time I tried doing the all fanservice section with the same level of effort edit wise that I put into the two latter sections. The result was pretty good, but it ended up extending the playtime of the video massively (which could be a problem for some bigger projects down the road) and it also meant I had to work my tail off for two months instead of one to get this thing finished.
I think this was one of my better videos, maybe not top 10, but definitely top 25. The video I did after (Ikkitousen Western Wolves) is one I’m even more proud of, but that’s for another day (unless you’re a Patron).
Favorite Character
A mark of a great ecchi series is that it is almost impossible to pick a favorite, and that’s not even mentioning some of the sexy girls from the manga that didn’t make it into the anime.
In the manga, I’d probably give a slight edge to Sagiri as the sexiest girl. But her character loses a little something in the anime with the softer character design style favored by Xebec.
In the anime, it’s a very close call but I’d have to say Nonko just because of how much fun Xebec had with utilizing her breast physics- quite possibly the last callback we’ll get to the greatness that was Kanokon and Ladies versus Butlers. Whether or not it was ecchi legend Akio Takami who played a hand in this we’ll never know (he isn’t credited), but it’s very much in the spirit of his past work. Some credit to Nonko’s voice actress (Ai Kakuma) as well, one of the few ecchi veterans in this cast. She basically used the same voice here as she did for Rossweisse in DxD, if Rossweisse were worry free and way sluttier.
A close second would be Oboro, who in the anime is about as eager to learn about her body as the audience is. Oboro provides yet another reminder that even smaller tits are still great for boob play.
