There’s a lot to like about Vanquished Queens so far. The first OVA has outstanding animation quality, and the fanservice extras are a bit, unique. There’s even a bit of back story in every episode.

It’s good to see that Hoods Entertainment isn’t dead. Also, it’s good to see that Queen’s Blade isn’t yet dead, too. I had my doubts we’d see more of this series given that Queen’s Blade Rebellion felt like such a huge step backwards. ARMS apparently had enough of the series- now it’s the legendary Hoods Entertainment who takes the mantle.
Hoods Entertainment got it’s start with the two most depraved and perverted animes ever to make it to television. Though their most famous anime works are not far removed from hentai and in fact this company does have some roots in the hentai business, I don’t think the quality of their animation should be overlooked. By ecchi standards, only Xebec even comes close to the animation job that Hoods Entertainment does. I think this OVA series is just further proof of that. The animation upgrade from ARMS is enormous.
So yes, huzzah to Hoods Entertainment! Huzzah Queen’s Blade! Huzzah good animation in ecchi! With those accolades out of the way, I must express a pet peeve. I do not like it when nude ecchi series resort to nudity that only lasts on the screen for a fraction of a second. Without question, there is no reason to watch this OVA for any reason other than the fanservice, and if you constantly have to hit pause to see it, I think there is a problem in the execution from the animators standpoint.
Thankfully my videos “correct” this mistake but it’s still not the same as naturally occurring, fluid, longer lasting, “ergonomic” nudity that feels more comfortable to watch. In future Queen’s Blade efforts, I’m hoping we get a little bit less battle nudity and a lot more of the stationary variety (bathing, etc).
The OVA’s continue a trend set from the previous OVA series, with the same “workout” formula originally introduced in Training with Hinako. Except this time, workouts are replaced with a water torture scene and a cooking scene that service via the trusty wardrobe malfunction.
Hopefully these OVAs are a bridge to a new Queen’s Blade series in the future. Rebellion may have had some issues, but it did have some hot characters and a ton of untapped fanservice potential. There are still some pretty interesting Queen’s Blade characters who haven’t yet appeared in the anime either, and it would be nice to see them animated.
At the very least, we can look forward to two more OVAs. Vanquished Queens is set for a third OVA in March and a 4th OVA in July. It could very well be that these OVAs could be market indicators that decide whether another season of the show happens. Hopefully they sell well enough to ensure future Queen’s Blade titles.
The first OVA had awesome production values. The second OVA, not so much. Hopefully that is a case of them overspending on the first OVA to make an impression, and not a reaction to sales.
I’d definitely put this video in the “pleasant surprise” category. Any ecchi series that relies heavily on ultra-brief nudity is going to be a lot better served in one of my videos because of the pausing and “gifable” extensions.
I spent a lot of time improving the fanservice specials, replacing repetitive and unnecessary non-nude shots with more titties, as well as a extending and looping a few of the better moments that before only lasted on screen for a fraction of a second.
